High Rise structures are present in most of our market sector experience ranging from healthcare, residential, hospitality to commercial office. Our firm leadership have worked on several tall structures in downtown Dallas including a 60 and 37 story high rises. Currently we are designing a $740 Million replacement hospital with Corgan which stands 17 stories tall. We approached the design cognizant to our other high rise structures.
Design for wind loading is of particular importance in Texas due to the influence of hurricanes. The design wind speeds when applied to analytical code provisions result in significant wind pressures compared to other locales.
This places a premium on the need for refinement of design wind loads through wind tunnel testing. Accurate measures of pressure and force coefficients, in the presence of the surrounding built environment, account for much of the benefit. Wind tunnel studies are designed to satisfy the intent of the code with respect to safety while still reflecting realistic conditions for serviceability.
