Responsibilities
Performs and coordinates the structural design of assigned projects under the supervision of a professional engineer. Participates in reviews and work sessions with various governing agencies for code compliance. Is responsible for coordinating design and documentation to complete the deliverables on schedule and within budget. Reviews structural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines. Writes and edits structural specifications, selects procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and completes necessary calculations and review responses. Coordinates and assists, with affected disciplines, with any addendum, requests for information, change proposal requests, and change orders and is responsible to incorporate agreed upon changes into the project documentation. Provides construction contract administration as needed, including walking and making observations on site during project construction. Writes reports of site observations or other investigations conducted. Participates in QA/QC reviews of project work. May supervise the work of technicians.
Required Skills
Build basic structural Revit models with appropriate family elements
Perform basic vertical and lateral analysis in RAM Structural System and/or RAM Elements
Perform hand calculations for simple systems
Perform hand sketches for details and connections
Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word
Demonstrate knowledge of foundation design for common shallow and deep systems
Demonstrate knowledge of steel design and connection detail design
Demonstrate knowledge of concrete design, scheduling, and connection detail design
Demonstrate knowledge of masonry design and connection detail design
Demonstrate knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) all applicable reference codes related to building structural design
Demonstrate knowledge of Bluebeam Revu Studio
Write defensible engineering reports and letters
Clearly communicate project information and needs with other staff and clients in meetings, presentations, & written documents
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (required, US universities only) and master’s degree (preferred) in architectural engineering or civil engineering with an emphasis on structures.
2+ years (preferred) structural engineering experience as it relates to building design.
Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
Registration as an EIT.
Experience in designing and producing detail work for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood building structures.
